Our “pouch restoration” diet is for you if you have hit a stall that you need to break, gained weight, or simply need to “restore” your habits toward a healthier lifestyle.
This 5 day pouch reset diet, or any other “reset diet” will not shrink your stomach long term. It can, however, condition your body to smaller portions which may feel like your stomach reduced in size.
5 Day Pouch Reset Meal Plan
5 small meals per day: Our pouch reset diet requires you to fuel your body 5 times a day, every 2.5 to 3 hours.
Choose 1 option from every meal category every day. You can choose the same option each day or something different.
You are also free to change the order of any meal option to fit your routine.

Sample Meal Schedule
Remember, you can change the order of your meals (ex. Meal 3 in the morning, Meal 1 in the evening).
7:00 AM: Meal 1 (w/ iron vitamin)
10:00 AM: Meal 2 (w/ bariatric multivitamin, calcium citrate)
12:30 PM: Meal 3 (w/ bariatric multivitamin, calcium citrate)
3:30 PM: Meal 4 (w/calcium citrate)
6:30 PM: Meal 5
*Your vitamins may vary. Follow doctor’s recommendations.
Every Day (Optional): For best results, drink Wake Up Detox Tea: 2 TB Organic Apple Cider Vinegar in one cup of warm water. For flavor add lemon, cinnamon, and/or stevia.

Meal 1: Protein Smoothie
Protein smoothies are healthy and fresh, and a great way to start your day. They provide vitamins, nutrients, and energy to fuel your day and. Choose one of these protein shake recipes each morning:
Smoothie Option 1: 1 scoop vanilla protein powder, ½ frozen banana, ½ cup frozen berries, 1 cup spinach (optional), 1 cup unsweetened almond milk blended with ½ cup ice.
Smoothie Option 2: ½ cup plain Greek yogurt, ½ cup frozen mango, ½ cup raspberries, 1 cup unsweetened almond/coconut milk, ¾ cup ice, 1 tb stevia (optional).
Smoothie Option 3: 1 scoop chocolate protein powder, ½ frozen banana, 3/4 cup unsweetened almond/coconut milk, 2 tb powdered peanut butter, ¾ cup ice.
Smoothie Option 4: ½ cup plain greek yogurt, ½ large peach, 1/2 cup frozen berries, 3/4 cup unsweetened almond milk, ¾ cup ice.
Smoothie Option 5: 1 cups chopped kale, stems removed, ¾ cups unsweetened almond milk, ½ frozen banana, 1/2 cup frozen pineapple, ¼ cup plain Greek yogurt, 1 TB peanut butter, 1 teaspoon honey or stevia.
These protein smoothies should be made with fresh or frozen fruits and either plain Greek yogurt or organic protein powder as a base. Protein powder can be whey, egg white, or pea protein.
Meal 2: Nuts/Seeds
Nuts and seeds are a great source of energy, fiber, and healthy fats.
Option 1: 15 almonds
Option 2: 13 cashews
Option 3: 10 pecan halves
Option 4: ½ large avocado
Option 5: 2 TB hulled sunflower seeds or ½ cup shelled
Meal 3: Meat and Vegetables
Option 1: Up to 4 ounces of cooked protein. Choose either white meat chicken, turkey, or fish.
Option 2: 2 eggs
You may also include:
- As many fresh non-starchy vegetables (raw, steamed, roasted, or sautéed). We recommend broccoli, squash, leafy greens, cauliflower, carrots, okra, beets, spinach, green beans, and green salad.
- 1 TB olive or coconut oil
Meal 4: Broth
Bone broth is rich in minerals and amino acids that improve digestion repairs your gut lining and reduces inflammation in your intestines. Bone broth also contains collagen, which helps hair and nail growth.
Option 1: 2 cups bone broth (homemade or organic store-bought in a carton).
Option 2: 2 cups vegetable broth (homemade or organic store-bought in a carton).
You may also include: 1 cup vegetables cooked in broth.
Meal 5: Legumes and Vegetables
It is important to incorporate fresh vegetables into the 5 day pouch reset diet. Beans and lentils are filled with complex carbohydrates, protein, fiber, and several important vitamins and minerals.
Options: Up to ½ cup cooked beans or lentils
You may also include:
- Unlimited fresh non-starchy vegetables (raw, steamed, roasted, or sautéed).
- 1 TB olive or coconut oil
Look over the post op diet with approved foods and forbidden foods for each stage.
Pouch Reset Diet Tips for Success
After 5 days, it is critical to maintain a healthy, portion-controlled diet. Whether you’ve had gastric bypass or gastric sleeve surgery, the 5 day pouch reset diet can work for you.
- Always drink 64 ounces or more of water or unsweetened tea (can be sweetened with stevia), can add slices of lemon for flavor.
- No soda, juice, energy drinks, or alcohol (or any other beverage containing sugar or artificial sweeteners).
- Slow down your eating pace. Take a small bite, chew to applesauce consistency before swallowing, then wait 60 seconds until your next bite.
- Vegetables are the best resource for keeping you feeling full with the very little amount of caloric impact. They are naturally low in calories and provide many nutrients including vitamins, minerals, and fiber.
- Take bariatric vitamins are also important to your restoration diet. Recommitting to health goals must include proper vitamin supplementation. Make sure they follow Bariatric Vitamin and Dietary Needs Based on ASMBS Guidelines.
